Safety is always a priority when it comes to our homes, and while we should take all the precautions we can, at times accidents happen. What happens, then, if there is a fire in your home? Even if it is put out relatively quickly, what kinds of damage could we expect?
It would be only natural for us to assume that the greater amount of destruction would be caused from the fire itself, but this isn’t always the case. What other types of damage could you expect to find?
A major factor with a fire is smoke damage. Smoke can get everywhere, so even if the fire was relatively small and contained in one area, you could find that smoke has affected a much larger area. It will be very apparent on ceilings and walls etc. This should be thoroughly taken care of, as if it is not properly treated, it can create a variety of respiratory issues and health problems.
Another result of fire damage is not necessarily visible, but caustic, harmful substances could be left behind. With time, these could be damaging to health.
The appropriate cause of action when a fire starts is to alert the fire department who will tackle the blaze. While this is necessary, much damage is done to a home from the resulting water damage. One problem can be that if the water damage is not dealt with in the correct way and is not dried out properly, you could end up with a rather serious mold issue.
