In our previous blog, we talked about biological pollutants and their presence in practically every home. This time we are going to talk about how to determine if bio pollutants are starting to affect the health of you or someone in your household.
Many of the symptoms experienced by those affected by biological pollutants are the same as many other health problems, so it is very important to consult with your health care professional for an accurate diagnosis. However, it may be helpful for your doctor to know your answers to the following questions:
Does your home have high humidity levels? Does it smell musty or moldy indicating a sign of water intrusion? Does water tend to accumulate on hard surfaces in the home?
Have you changed or cleaned the filters of your air conditioning units or humidifiers recently, or has it not been done in a while?
If you are experiencing headaches, tiredness, fever, trouble breathing, stuffy nose, and a dry throat, etc. do these symptoms go away after you have spent some time out of doors?
Did you have any energy conservation work done in your home recently like weatherstripping, insulating, or storm window installation? If so, did your health problems begin before or after the work was done? If you have just moved to a new home, did you start experiencing the symptoms after the move?
Are rodents, cockroaches, or other types of pests a problem in your home?
If you are able to answer yes to some or all of these questions, then there is a possibility that biological pollutants are affecting your health, so don’t forget to talk to your GP about this.
