It may have happened to you in the past, you receive a flyer in the mail, or you see a website with a before and after picture of a dark dingy roof on one side, and bright new-looking roof on the other. Looks great right? But consider what it would take for your roof to get to that point. Methods a contractor would use to clean a roof are varied.

In order to get any dirt or moss off of your roof, the person may want to be thorough, not leaving any streaks or discoloration, which may require someone to climb up on your roof and apply a great amount of water pressure to your roof shingles. In order to avoid a problem, that contractor very possibly may have caused many others. By applying this amount of pressure, both by the weight of the person and the water, it could cause cracks or leaks that before didn’t exist. However, someone may offer a solution, a soft wash. Sound good right? Well, consider the chemicals that are being used which could cause damage to the roof tiles, to your plants or small animals.

Is the risk worth it? How much damage is the moss or growth actually causing? We’ll talk about this in our next post.
