One of the most important parts of our pool inspections is the pool barrier or fence. This is because it is one of the first lines of defense for the safety of children, pets, and other occurrences .
When it comes to a pool fence, the spacing between vertical members should not be more than 4 inches. This size is based on the head width and chest depth of a young child, and is meant to keep young ones from passing (or trying to pass) through the openings.
A chain-link fence is a bit different. The mesh size should not exceed 1-1/4 inches square. Again, this is for safety reasons.
Above-ground pools should have barriers as well (but is often skipped). The pool structure itself can sometimes serve as its own barrier, but is often better to have its own barrier and a way to secure the steps/
Whatever the situation of your pool, contact us for more details on the proper pool barriers.
