While there are numerous kinds of siding to choose from these days, wooden siding still remains very popular and is found on many homes throughout the States.  It’s a good idea, then, to know a little more about some of the more common kinds of wood siding you might find.  Here are a few of them:

One very popular type of wood siding is lumber or solid wood.  These can be arranged in various combinations such as horizontally, diagonally or vertically.  This is a good choice for wood siding because it looks appealing and when maintained well is very durable.

Another, less expensive, option is hardboard.  This is usually a compressed wood fiberboard made with synthetic adhesive that is generally treated with EPA approved preservative which helps prevent decay and damage from insects.

Weatherboard, also known as clapboard is generally installed horizontally so that the long boards overlap.  The wood used for this is usually cedar or redwood because it is very strong and not so prone to decay.

Plywood is another option.  Woods used for this kind of wood siding are western red cedar, Douglas fir and yellow pine.  Whether they are installed in a horizontal or vertical position, they can contribute to the home’s structural strength.

As we can see, there are many different choices of wood siding and this has only been a few options.  So, if you are in the process of building a house and are considering wooden siding, its good to look at all the possibilities.
