With so many of us spending more time at home, it is quite likely that this has been the year you finally got your at-home gym together. With this in mind, we thought it was a good idea to provide some basic reminders for keeping you and your household safe around at-home exercise equipment.

Among the more common gym equipment to have at home is a treadmill. When using the treadmill make sure you use the attached safety key which will stop the machine if you fall, etc. You should also ensure that everyone who will be using the treadmill is aware of this safety feature.

Young children are often fascinated with exercise equipment so it is important to keep items that can be particularly dangerous, such as weights and barbells, locked up and out of their grasp.

When you are not using exercise machines, keep them in their lock positions with all cords and wires safely stored and out of reach. Unplugging equipment after you have used it is another safety measure you can take to prevent a child from accidentally switching it on and causing themselves injury.

Another safety measure you can take is to position exercise machines and gym equipment in a way that allows you to clearly see anyone coming in and out of the room. Many of us like to listen to music or the television while working out and so may not hear or notice when someone approaches and comes near to us. This can result in accident or injury, especially in the case of small children.

An at-home gym can be a great way to stay fit and healthy, but it can also present a number of dangers if we do not use it as instructed or if it gets into the wrong hands. Following these basic safety tips will help to keep it a safe place.
